1. What will City Hall’s new hours be?

Beginning September 9, 2019 City Hall will be open Monday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. City Hall will be closed on Fridays.

2. Why is the City closing on Friday?

The City Council agreed to this pilot program as a means to attract and retain employees, increase employee morale, and offer work/life balance, as well as provide extended hours for residents Monday through Thursday.

3. Why extend the hours of City Hall?

Many El Mirage residents have to take time out of their work day to access City services such as paying a water bill or getting a building permit. Extended City hours will allow residents to access City services before or after their work day.

4. How long will this pilot program run?

City staff will report back to the City Council in October 2020 with feedback related to having City Hall closed on Friday.

5. Will other City services be affected by the closure on Friday?

Many City services will be offered on Fridays, including the El Mirage senior center, code enforcement, and victim assistance. Essential police and fire services will continue seven days a week, as will calls for emergency services such as water line breaks.

6. Will City employees be working less hours by having Fridays off?

City employees will continue to work 40 hours a week, many of whom will work four 10-hour days to provide extended service Monday through Thursday.

7. Will I still be able to pay my utility bill on Fridays?

Yes, multiple options are available for making payment during, or outside of, business hours:

• A drop-box, located in front of the Customer Service Office, provides a secure location for customers to deposit their payment. Payments are retrieved first thing the following business day.
• Customers may set up an online account through Xpress Bill Pay, https://www.xpressbillpay.com to make a payment at their convenience using a card or checking account. There is no fee for using this service.
• The City is set to implement an Integrated Voice Response (IVR) system by October 2019. This service is provided through Xpress Bill Pay, and it allows customers to call and make a payment to their account at any time, including outside of business hours. There will be no fee for using this payment option. Please watch for more information regarding this service to be provided in the near future.

8. Will I be able to turn my water on/off on Fridays?

Yes, the City will work with new customers on an individual, as-needed, basis to ensure they have access to new utility services on Fridays. The City will continue the current practice of avoiding scheduled turn offs on Fridays.

9. Will the day my water bill is due be affected by City Hall being closed on Fridays?

No, utility bill due dates will not be affected by City Hall being closed on Fridays.

10. Can I still schedule construction inspections on Fridays?

Building Safety and Engineering inspections will be offered Monday through Thursday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (summer months) and 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (non-summer months). For inspection requests you can access our automated system by calling 623-876-2979 (Building Safety) or 623-876-2939 (Engineering).
