Insurance Service Organization - ISO Rating
In October 2011, the Insurance Services Organization (ISO) came out and conducted their rating of the City’s overall fire protection services. During this process the ISO provides an objective, national standard evaluation of the community’s fire protection services to help City in planning and budgeting for facilities, equipment, and training.
Each City is rated on a scale of 1-10 with “1” being the best and “10” being no fire protection. This rating is also used by insurance companies to determine the fire insurance premiums for the City.
The last evaluation before this latest was performed in 2000 for which the City received a duel rating of a 5/9. I am proud to report that the City of El Mirage’s fire protection rating improved by two protection classes to a 3/9!
If your property is within 5 miles of the fire station and 1,000 ft. or less from a fire hydrant your protection class would be a “3”. If your property does not fall into those parameters your protection class would be a “9”.
What this means to the community is that because of the City’s investment in the fire department and the water distribution system, their fire insurance premiums may be reduced by as much as 14%!
All property owners and business owners are encouraged to contact their insurance company and let them know of the changes to the fire protection classification to see if their insurance premiums can be reduced.
